New Special Starch Works Better Than Conventional Starches
FAIRFIELD, N.J., Sept. 21, 2005 — Remydon, a special new type of rice starch penetrates textiles more thoroughly throughout the fabric and as a result provides a like-new satiny touch while stiffening the fabric. Available from A&B Ingredients, Remydon consists of fine particles that permit the particles to penetrate the textile thoroughly.
According to A&B Ingredients, 1 gram of rice starch contains about 60 times more particles than do those of corn or wheat. Remydon starch also protects the fabrics from wear, according to the manufacturer.
Realizing that different fabrics and customers require different levels of stiffening, A&B Ingredients suggests these usage levels: - Low starching: 1.56 ounces starch per 10 gallons (1 g starch per liter) water.
- Medium starching: 3.125 ounces starch per 10 gallons (2 g starch per liter) water.
- Heavy starching: ounce 4.66 ounces starch per 10 gallons (3 g starch per liter) water.
A&B Ingredients also suggests these spinning or tumbling settings: - Steam pressure on the tub: 131 to 145 psi (9 to 10 bar).
- Air pressure: 58 to 72 psi (4 to 5 bar).
- Temperature: 338 to 356 degrees F (170 to 180 degrees C).
- An average of 10 times rpm. The speed depends on the kind of fabric and amount of water in it.
Recommended pressing parameters: - Steam pressure: 87 psi to 116 psi (6 to 8 bar).
- Air pressure: 72.5 psi to 87 psi (5 to 6 bar).
- Temperature: 302 to 320 degrees F (150 to 160 degrees C).
- Time: 10 to 16 seconds.
